Finding the "Spark"

Hey there internet pals. How are you?

I spent my day working on this piece, and man, I'm glad that's over with! For the last few days, the work has not come easily. Every cut, paste and mark is a struggle. I'm constantly second guessing myself and I'm lacking the confidence that I normally possess in my creative process.

I'm not sure exactly how I got into this little artist funk, but I do know it will pass. I just need to give myself a little time, a little space...... Not be so hard on myself. And soon, I'll find that "spark" again.

So, friends, what do you do when you're in an artistic slump? Do you muscle through? Walk away? Seek inspiration? Where? Do share.

Ta-Ta for now.

* I was just about to post this entry, when I came across my artist/teacher buddy Tabatha Dougherty's blog entry for the day.  The work came easy to her today, and she's "sparking" in a big way!

Out With the Old......

Happy 2012 friends! I hope that the holiday season and the first few days of the new year have been good to you. I am happy to be back home in Carbondale after 2 trips up north in as many weeks.

I spent today cleaning my house, and decided to do the same in my Etsy shoppe.  I've placed several of my older original ACEO's on sale. Most of these pieces are from my long running Floral Improv collection and feature cut magazine and ink embellishments.  Originally $20.00, these little beauties are now priced at $12.00. That's 40% off of the original price! Woo.

ACEOs (Art, Card, Edition, Originals) measure just 2.5" x 3.5" and make great gifts. Go. Buy!

Ta-Ta for now.

Little Luxuries

To many, art is a luxury.

To me, art is a necessity.

I hope that someone out there is willing to indulge in this "Little Luxury."

This original mixed media ACEO, measuring just 2.5" x 3.5" is available in my Etsy shop.

School will be out shortly, so expect a new crop of originals in the shoppe soon.

Ciao.

Truth and Beauty

Meet Truth and Beauty, the newest work in my Etsy shop. I decided it was time to make some more of these larger works on canvas, as I have sold most of the others that I made last summer. Feels so good to sell!

Every time I get reacquainted with paint, I remember how easy it is to fix mistakes or change your mind. There is always the option to paint over it! That's liberating to me, as its not always the case with pen and ink.

Spring break begins tomorrow! I'm looking forward to spending some serious time in the studio, cranking out new pieces for my summer art show line up. Stay tuned for dates and locations.

Happy spring!

Lovin' the Ledger

What Shall I Name This?

I found an old ledger book in the teacher's lounge today. I loved the pattern and color of the grid and decided to use it as a support for my newest collage. The earthy colors of the lines inspired the jewel toned color scheme. Instead of embellishing with black ink, used sepia on this. I had forgotten how much I enjoy that dark brown shade. It creates a nice warmness that black lacks.

I'm not sure what to name this piece. Any suggestions?
